SINA.com launched a charity programme on December 8,1999 (Wednesday) entitled CHINA EDUCATION IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM. Mr. Wang Zhidong, CEO & President of SINA.com together with Mr. Zhang Yimou, Director of "NOT ONE LESS" and Mr. Kevin Chiu, CEO of World Vision Hong Kong conducted the launch ceremony.

At the ceremony, Mr. Wang Zhidong and Director Zhang Yimou shared with audiences their school life in China and their comments on movie "NOT ONE LESS". The entire 30-minute interview will be broadcast on SINA.com.hk http://www.sina.com.hk/y2k_education/movie on December 11, 1999 (Friday).

CHINA EDUCATION IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM is organized by SINA.com. Funds will be donated to World Vision Hong Kong directly from donors. Funds raised will be used towards developing a better educational environment for students and teachers in poverty-stricken districts in the Mainland.

We hope our Internet fund raising campaign will contribute to World Vision Hong Kong and help many children in China enjoy a gift we often take for granted - a meaningful education."

CEO Kevin Chiu of World Vision Hong Kong added, "We are very grateful to SINA.com as they have been very helpful to World Vision Hong Kong. On September 21, 1999, Taiwan experienced a devastating earthquake, which caused tremendous grief to many people. SINA.com not only post the donation message on the website, it also set up a message board where many net users wrote meaningful and heartfelt words to the victims in Taiwan. In addition, SINA.com also help net users to locate their friends and relatives in Taiwan. SINA.com and World Vision Hong Kong will be hosting a volunteer visit next year to villages in China who will be granted funds from the campaign CHINA EDUCATION IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM. Once details of this volunteer visit to China are confirmed, net users will be recruited to join this expedition.



This film centers around 13-year-old Wei Min-Zhi, who becomes the substitute teacher for Mr. Gao at the Shuiquan Primary School. Not only does she have to force discipline on a class comprised of students her own age, but she also has to stop them from dropping out. Directed by Zhang Yi-Mou.
